Visitors
to the Islands seek to explore beautiful waters both above and below the
surface. This is where we can help! The Power Cats we use have been specifically
designed to offer the perfect platform for both scuba diving and sports
fishing.
Scuba diving in the BVI
The BVI can claim over 100 dives sites that are well worth an underwater
visit. Whilst the Islands cannot claim to be the greatest destination
for wall or drift diving, its does have sites full of the most stunningly
colourful coral gardens, canyons, tunnels, caverns, grottos, and shipwrecks
teaming with underwater life of every size and kind.
The
60 Islands and Cays, which make up the BVI are centered around, or connected
to, the Sir Francis Drake Channel. Many sites are in the 15' to 50' range,
with others having 60' to 80' depths. Most of the dives are from a mooring
ball and the current is almost non-existent - underwater photographers
fire up your cameras! There is plenty to see and do for both new, and
advanced or expert divers. Water temperatures can vary from 76 degrees
in January/February to 84 degrees in August/September. Visibility averages
100', but can drop to 60' in the warm summer months, or reach almost 200'
in the winter and spring months Conservation is very much in effect, with
marked buoys at the more popular sites.
We are fortunate in the BVI to have a large number of dive operators and
instructors available to act as either guides or instructors. We can organize
rendezvous dives or make
arrangements to have instructors on board with you. The beauty of the
Power Cats is that there is the room to have all your kit on board with
you, and use the boat as a luxury floating hotel during your dive vacation.
This saves both time and expense, and of course the hassle of having to
get to and from your boat every day. The Cats can get you quickly to and
from the chosen dive site of the day and there is space to stretch out
and relax after your dive. The features aboard the Cats that make them
an outstanding dive platform are:
- Huge walk around swim platform with safety rails
- Sturdy dive ladder
- Easy access to and from the sea
- Tankracks
- Freshwater washdown
- Storage space for equipment
- Wide beam stable platform
- High speed cruise from site to site
- Economical on fuel
- In excess of 400 gallons of fresh water on board
We can arrange the hire of all the necessary equipment, reserve the 'Cat',
book an instructor, plan your trip, all you have to do is let us know
what you want, then get on the aircraft!
Sports fishing in the BVI
Fishing
in the British Virgin Islands is world class and has been for years. The
BVI are home to the famous North Drop above Tortola which claims the highest
number of Blue Marlin strikes per day of anywhere in the world. Not to
mention the swarms of wahoo, dolphin fish, tuna (black and yellowfin),
sailfish, white marlin and kingfish that hungrily feed around the Islands
of the BVI.
In
fact, one of our Power Cats has just won, at first attempt, the International
Virgin Gorda Sportsfish Tournament with a whopping great Wahoo!
Our 52ft Power Cats are designed and equipped for sports fishing with:
- Twin 20ft outriggers
- Twin fighting chairs
- Rod holders
- Split screen electronics package for depth and fishfinding
- High speed cruise to and from fishing spots
- Economical fuel consumption
- Easy sea access for baits and fish handling
- Stable wide beam fast roll rate recovery
- Very quiet at trolling speed
- Lots of space aft
Living aboard makes your fishing holiday relaxing and more enjoyable.
For instance you can cruise up to Anegada, spend the night scoffing barbecued
lobster washed down with a local concoction and rise early, work down
the North 'drop off' during the day to above Jost Van Dyke, cruise in
for a swim at Sandy Spit, dinner aboard of barbecued fresh tuna, relax
with beer in hand on fighting chair lazily watching the sun go down over
the Islands.
We
can rent you fishing equipment. We can team you up with an experienced
skipper and mate (recommended for local knowledge both as regards the
boat and where to go) or you can go off on your own. These sports fishing
Cats are highly recommended as a brilliant platform to explore the well
kept secrets of fishing the BVI.
